If the polutants measured (Hydrocarbons, Carbon Monoxide, and Nitrous Oxides are all counted, a huge reduction in polution could be obtained by raising the standard of testing.
If all stations performed at the level of the top 12% of stations, a polution reduction of near 70 TONS PER DAY (600 TONS if carbon monoxide is included) is achievable.
If all stations performed at the level of the top 25% of stations, a polution reduction of over 50 TONS PER DAY (467 TONS if carbon monoxide is included) is achievable.
Total reductions would be significantly higher when the newer vehicles are included (1996 and newer)
